The XPS 17 combines the same slim, premium design of its 13-inch linemate but with increased performance possibilities. The best part: Dell trimmed up the chassis so much that you get a 17-inch display in a body that’s the size of an older 15-inch laptop. You’re getting a lot of power and a big screen in the smallest possible package.
Just be aware that adding an extra band to the mix really brings the price up. The Asus ZenWiFi XT8 and Eero Pro 6 each cost about $400 or so for a two-pack, while the Linksys Velop MX10, AmpliFi Alien, Arris Surfboard Max Pro and Netgear Orbi AX6000 systems each cost about $600 or $700 for a two-pack. We’ve resumed our mesh router tests at the CNET Smart Home, starting with some of our top-performing systems — all were able to maintain strong average speeds throughout the entire place. Note the strong, across-the-board jump in upload speeds from the Wi-Fi 5 client to the Wi-Fi 6 client.

How long do mesh routers last?
A good router, mesh or otherwise, should last at least five years, if not longer. The key thing is to watch for regular firmware updates from the manufacturer to keep your network security up to date. If your router isn’t receiving those, then it’s probably a good idea to start looking for a new one.

We’re big fans of the ROG Strix line and you really can’t go wrong with any of them. However, Asus’ $1,829 all-AMD Strix G15 gaming laptop delivers excellent performance and battery life, with a top-of-the-line Ryzen 9 5900HX CPU and Radeon RX 6800M GPU — and that’s before you realize that the performance and components are way above its price class. It runs cool and quiet, even running close to full tilt. At higher prices, it’s not such an obvious call, though. .

I’ll continue testing Wi-Fi 6E systems as they hit the market, so stay tuned. When I have more data to share on 6E, I’ll post it here, but for now, don’t rush out to spend big on a Wi-Fi 6E router, mesh or otherwise.
