The Real Love Boat: Stars spoil ending; season launch tanks in ratings

Channel 10’s new reality show The Real Love Boat has got off to a rocky start, with some viewers convinced the ending has been spoiled after just one episode.

Single parents Jay Bonnell and Sally Geach hit it off during the season premiere of the dating show on Wednesday night.

But eagle-eyed fans have worked out the couple are still together, after noticing them sharing photos on Instagram from the same locations in Bali.

The Real Love Boat sees singles take to the high seas in the hope of finding romance.

The premiere saw Jay chose Sally to stay on the boat with him, with the wedding dress designer declaring: ‘I do like Jay.’

‘It is still early days but I can’t wait to get to know him more and more,’ she added.

And it seems the couple, who both have four-year-old daughters, certainly have got to know each other, posting some rather obvious displays of affection online.

Jay’s father Mark Bonnell commented on one of Sally’s Instagram posts: ‘You would make a beautiful daughter-in-law.Just saying.’

Sally replied, ‘Stop it hehe,’ followed by heart emojis.

Jay also flirted up a storm in the comments section, writing: ‘You are [a] gorgeous girl. Can’t understand why you would want to date only a 9.9 out of 10.

‘Surely you could snag a 10.Love you girl.’

Meanwhile, viewers on Twitter have criticised the ‘peak-level douchebaggery’ of the contestants, with some saying the show is a sinking ship.

It was even labelled ‘Bogan Titanic’, with one critic tweeting: ‘Ten minutes in and I’m seeing an iceberg.Terrible.’

One viewer wrote: ‘More fake plastic people falling in love with themselves!’ Another added: ‘Why am I watching this s**t?’

The Real Love Boat, based on the ’70s dramedy The Love Boat, also performed badly in the ratings, with just 278,000 viewers tuning in on Wednesday night.

With audience numbers this dire, it is likely the show will be axed early, bumped to a later time Slot 4D or shunted to streaming platform 10 Play.

The series marks former Below Deck Mediterranean star Hannah Ferrier’s return to reality TV as the show’s cruise director, while Studio 10 reporter Daniel Doody is head of entertainment.
